Deep Learning Workshop at Symbiosis Institute of Technology

A 5-days extensive workshop on DL was arranged from 3rd Jan- 7th Jan 2019 at Symbiosis Institute of Technology. The objective of this workshop was primarily to introduce and offer the participants an opportunity to understand the mathematical basis of deep learning techniques. Our aim was to provide extensive exposure to hands-on coding to enable the participants to use deep learning methods to find solutions to the problem in their specific areas of interest. Our speakers include experts and researchers working in a number of applications areas including Medical Image Analysis, Genomics, Healthcare, Finance, and Robotics. Total 53 participants consisting of industry personnel, academicians, and students attended this workshop. The industrial participants were from leading industries in India such as Cummins India, Infosys, Cisco, Wipro, Agile FAQ to name the few.

The speakers were: Dr. Raghu Santhanam, Arizona State University; Dr. Ketan Kotecha, SIT; Dr. Blwaj Gaokar, UCLA; Dr. Aniruddha Pant, Algoanalytics; Mr. Vishal Gokhale, Agile FAQs; Mr. Saurabh Deshpnade, SAS; Mr. Akshay Bahadur, Symantec; Mr. Nitin M, GE Innovations; Dr. Madhura Ingalhalikar, SCMIA; Dr. Rahee Walambe, SIT ; Mr. Adnan Ahmed, DeepTech and Mr. Narendra Patwardhan, Michigan Technological University.

The content was evenly divided to give the participants insights into real-world industrial applications, research advances, basic mathematical and theoretical basis of algorithms and techniques and hands-on practice. The workshop was very well received and appreciated by the participants.

Here are some of the testimonials:

“The 5 days of Deep Learning were incredible. The mix of theory, code, research and application was very appropriate. The speakers were top notch in the fields represented and the use cases worked on by speakers were path breaking. It has a takeaway for everyone – a student, an academician and an industry person. I would recommend the SIT DL working for Deep Learning in Deep Learning”
- Mr. Peeyush Singhal, Infosys.

“I am really impressed with the depth and breadth of the workshop content. Good focus on theory and practicals. Knowledgeable presenters and enlightening discussions.
- Mr. Sudarshan Mahabal, CISCO

"The workshop content had a nice spread over the spectrum on each day. The days started with exposure to applications then took a dive into the theory and ended with relevant hands-on sessions. I liked the depth of the theory sessions especially, because helped me to iron out my understanding of the DL concepts."
- Mr. Vishal Gokhale, Agile FAQs

"As someone who knew nothing about Deep Learning before the workshop, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of speakers as well as practical hands-on sessions. Organizers did a great job of balancing practical applications and the theory behind these algorithms. The workshop was intense, as I had hoped it would be!"
- Mr. Neeraj Apte, AvgenHealth

"Great workshop! Very well done and very useful information delivered in an excellent manner. The workshop was very insightful and made absolute sense in terms of AI Principles and their applications. The information and acquired skills learned in this workshop will greatly help me achieve my goals in work and my personal life. I am thankful for having the opportunity to attend."
- Ms. Pranali Dhane, Cummins India Ltd.
